Description & what's in the box

A compact 4K dash cam with its own screen. The Pilot records the road ahead through a Sony IMX415 sensor and a bright f/1.6 lens, every time you drive.

Want the road behind you too? Choose the Front + Rear option: a 1080p rear camera on a 6 m cable records at the same time as the front.

If something happens, the G-sensor locks the clip so it can't be recorded over. Replay it in the free app over Wi-Fi, save it to your phone and send it to your insurer or the police.

Will it fit my car?
  • Yes for cars, SUVs and most vans with a 12V socket.
  • 12V only: a 24V supply will damage it. For lorries and some large vans, add a 24V to 12V converter.
  • It sticks behind your rear-view mirror. With the Front + Rear option, a 6 m cable runs to the back window.
  • Use only the rear camera sold with it: the maker only guarantees its own rear camera works with this dash cam.

01 · Day and night

Clear footage when the light drops.

The Pilot records the road in 4K (3840 × 2160) at 30 fps through a Sony IMX415 sensor. Its bright f/1.6 lens lets in more light, which helps on unlit roads, in tunnels and in car parks after dark.

The 170° view takes in the lanes on either side, so a car cutting in stays in shot.

  • Bright f/1.6 lens for low light
  • 170° wide view of the road ahead

02 · Voice prompts

It tells you it's recording.

The Pilot speaks to you in English. It confirms when it starts recording and when the Wi-Fi connects, so you don't have to look away from the road to check it.

Connect your phone to its Wi-Fi with the free app to take photos, start recording and replay your clips.

03 · Rear camera (option)

Cover the back too, if you need it.

Choose Front + Rear and a 1080p Sony rear camera films out of your back window at the same time as the front, with a 140° view and a 6 m cable.

To be straight with you: 1080p is less sharp than the 4K front, but it clearly shows what happened behind you.

  • Front and rear record together, every journey
  • 6 m cable to reach the back window

FAQ

Questions drivers ask before buying

Can't find your answer? Email support@dashproof.co.uk. A person replies within 24 working hours.

Does it have a rear camera?

Only if you choose the Front + Rear option. You then get a 1080p rear camera on a 6 m cable, which records at the same time as the front. The Front only version films the road ahead.

Will I really be able to read number plates?

That's what the 4K front camera is for. In good conditions, plates of the cars around you are readable. Distance, speed, heavy rain and direct glare all reduce detail, so no dash cam can promise every plate. The optional rear camera records in 1080p, so it shows less detail than the front.

Does it have GPS?

No, GPS isn't included with either version.

Is a memory card included?

No. You need a Class 10 microSD card of 32 to 128 GB. Choose a high-endurance card made for constant recording: cheap, slow cards are the most common cause of dash cam problems. A USB card reader is in the box.

Does it record when I'm parked?

Only with a hardwire kit (not included), which keeps it powered when the engine is off. Pick one with a low-voltage cut-off so it can't drain your battery.

Will it fit my car?

Yes if your vehicle has a 12V socket: cars, SUVs and most vans. Don't connect it to a 24V supply (lorries, some large vans): it will damage the camera unless you add a 24V to 12V converter.

Why does my phone lose internet when I use the app?

Your phone connects to the camera's own Wi-Fi to download clips, so it can't use that connection for the internet at the same time. Disconnect once your clips are saved.

Is a dash cam legal in the UK?

Yes. It must not block your view of the road, so fit it behind the rear-view mirror, and don't handle it while driving.

Will my insurer and the police accept the footage?

Footage can help support your insurance claim or a police report. Each insurer and police force decides how they use it.
